BIRTHDAY BEAR TRADITION

I have 9 old, wrinkly friends, who are retired or semi-retired. Five of them all used to work together and the other four are husbands. They didn't want to lose touch when they retired so they decided to meet and have lunch or dinner when it was their birthdays. However, they got disenchanted with buying a present every time, and decided instead to give a Birthday Bear (thats me.) I get passed from one birthday person to the next each time they meet. The fun part is, that I get to be dressed differently each time, usually to reflect some aspect of the recipient's personality or life.
PS: Two of my wrinklies, Chris and Bob, have gone on a working holiday tour around Australia so they don't celebrate with us very often.

YODEL-AY-EE-OO

It was Bill's Birthday last month and I got to be dressed as a Swiss  Alphornbläser,  (Alphorn player). I felt very proud at the Sunnybank Hotel with my Swiss shirt and Alphorn. I had a bag of Swiss chocolates too, for my old wrinkly friends.
Yodel-ay- ee- oo toot toot on my horn.

I was very pleased to see that Chris and Bob were joining in the fun again. They have been away for a long time but the cyclone blew them back to Brisbane. Here are the old girls, Chris is in the middle.

Here are the old boys, Bob is in front, left.

Bill was very happy to see me looking all Swiss with my horn and trumpets . Bill plays the trumpet too. He was fooling around with one of the girl's bag and Diane was peeking at her soccer team on the telly.

Ahhhh it was fun to have dinner with all my old wrinklies back together again. Thank you Ann for dressing me for tonight's birthday celebration.

Yippee, I'm off to Bill and Diane's place for a while until the next birthday. Diane had to carry me because Bill is a bit shy to cuddle me in public but he'll play with me when we get home. We can play a duet on our horns.

  1. Oh, it is lovely to see you back here after quite a lengthy absence, Birthday Bear! I must say, you did look very much the part in your Swiss gear. I do wish Diane had recorded you playing your Alphorn!

Don't you think your dear elderly friends might feel a little hurt being called 'the old wrinklies?' I know you mean it as a term of endearment, but do you think they really want to be reminded that they're old and wrinkly?

I'm so glad you're visiting Diane and Bill - they're missing their beautiful baby grandson so much, as well as their lovely daughter and SIL. I'm sure you'll keep their spirits perked up and help them to plan their trip to LA.

    Hugs,

    Des xoxo

  3. Looks like Birthday Bear is having way to much fun. LOL.. In regards to our recent trip to Charleston Ted R. Bear did make the trip with us but wasn't up to doing much sightseeing. We tried to acquire a new Bear "Robert E. Lee" from Boyds Bears but were not successful. Joe Todd,Linda and all the Bears wish everyone many more Birthdays.
